Career TOOLBox #14: What Women Can Learn from Men

From 2005 – 2008 I had the privilege to travel the globe and my camera captured these adventures.   About five years ago, Jimmy, the manager of Studio Palmieri, gave me my first wall space, finding a home for a life-long hobby.   Since then, several photography shows followed. However, over the past three and a half years, with minor exception, I haven’t done much with the medium.

Then, a couple of week ago, I received a surprise phone call from Jimmy. He called because GoodFellers, a new pub in downtown Cleveland, was hosting a creative event: Your Buddies Art Show. Mark, the manager, specifically asked for my work. He, his business partner and wife Gretchen and GoodFellers Media Manager Angela thought this would be a great opportunity to showcase local artists.

Receiving this news and invitation felt great and, within a very short time frame, I assessed my inventory, including shots taken in Cleveland, Pittsburgh, London, Jaffa (Israel) and parts of Ireland, did last-minute framing and spread the news via social media. Cool Cleveland even did a nice write up. Then, a day before the event, Rosa, my hairdresser, texted me that she saw an ad in Scene Magazine promoting the event and that my name was listed with the other artists.

All the good energy helped kick off the fun and, the night of, not only did I get to meet some very creative Cleveland souls, but, also, good friends stopped by to say hello, get a drink and enjoy the festivities. With the deejay spinning good techno, we had a great time. And, with all the work I do with words, it was nice to reconnect with my other favorite language: images.
