Dublin Day 11: Meeting the Wizard in Emerald City – John Hurt

Alex Sukhoy Dublin IrelandMy friend Rachel, who lives in England, wished me a Happy European Birthday. I thought that was very sweet of her and, also, realized that it’s the first time in over 35 years that I celebrated my birthday on this side of the ocean. While a bit North and West of my birthplace, it’s still all tied by the same continent.

I spent the day today doing whatever I wanted to, getting lost in the crevices of the city and just letting each hour come as it may, revealing what would be next.

Keeping the events of the day to myself.

And, grateful beyond words for all the wishes of cheers, goodness and love that came thru from family and friends via email, social media and Viber from all over the globe. That, above all, made today spectacular.

Finally, as tonight I will be brief – it is almost 3am here – breathing with tremendous appreciation and realization that the journey here had far less to do with the 6-hour trans-continental flight and far more with a step-by-step laser-precision plan that took years in the making. It also meant saying goodbye to many things and just as many people. It wasn’t easy. But ever since, it’s been magical.

Today wasn’t so much about the day of birth. Rather, it’s about the season of rebirth.
