I am excited to share with you that my very first business book, Date Your Career: The Longest Relationship of Your Life, is nearing the finish line!

FINAL BOOK COVER

Art Pagsuyoin, who has designed every cover for my books, has also created this one, a combination of his creative vision, social media crowdsourcing and a surprising point of inspiration – a Netflix documentary series called Abstract.

We actually had a final book design, and it was in the traditional portrait layout. Once I realized that just about every designer in Abstract frames their work around the square, I thought, yes! Let’s do this. So I went back to Art and we will now have a square book.

CATEGORY

Date Your Career will also blend categories:

  • Business Book – It’ll contain carefully curated and categorized articles on pragmatic topics, such as Resumes, Social Media and Women in the Workforce, all proven content that received great traffic when originally published in Cool Cleveland, LinkedIn and Creative Cadence.
  • Coffee Table Book – Additionally, per the advice of two trusted professionals, Date Your Career will also be a coffee table book, loaded with the +100 original photo/quote memes that I challenged myself to create during 2016. Themes include #LoveWhatYouDo, #MarchForward and #ExitStrategy.

GUEST AUTHORS

I’m thrilled that 4 former CSU M.B.A. students have all contributed material. Rachel Pankiw, Eric Dunn, Paul Ibrahim and Chris Connelly all share their professional paths and serve as inspiration to other Millennials ready to take the world by storm. Frequent creative contributor Deena Nyer Mendlowitz sheds light on what it’s like to work when you’re struggling with depression. And the only non-Clevelander in the project, former coworker and Chicago neighbor Bryan Ceja reveals how Frida Kahlo is even more relevant now, given the risks she took in her career.

BOOK ORIGINS

I’m also very grateful that Thomas Mulready, publisher of Cool Cleveland, has agreed to write the book’s Foreword. The project seeds were planted back in December 2009, when Cool Cleveland published my very first Career ToolBox article. Then back in 2013 Thomas and I discussed on how to take the advice and publish it in a book format. Last summer the idea resurfaced and I rolled up the sleeves, sorting, pruning and editing over 80 articles. After reading the first draft a few months ago, Thomas pushed me to elevate the book not just to a higher standard, and to include all those images, but also to bypass all the subtleties and show the world what it’s all really like on the other side of the work curtain, especially for a woman.

VIDEO UPDATES

I’ve started shooting video updates of the project, and uploading them to the Creative Cadence YouTube channel and Instagram page. Subscribe/follow both for real time info.

Book Update #2: Revised Concept

Putting the final touches on the book right now. Stay tuned!

“After three years of job searching on my own, I was able to land a new job with your help after only six months. I wish I would’ve known to come to you sooner – I could have saved myself a lot of time and grief.” – Marketing Professional

“It’s been a long time since I updated you, but I wanted to let you know I’ve accepted a full-time position with an investment firm.”

“Well I must finally be doing something right. Actually, as you know I had never interviewed until I interviewed with you. Last week I had 3 interviews and this week I have 3 (Second round) interviews, and low and behold I have one scheduled with (company of choice) next week. Yeah!” – Hired HR Consultant.
